BIOGRAPHY of Robert Timmons

Robert "Bob" Timmons was the head track coach at the University of Kansas (KU), 1965-1988. Timmons graduated from KU with a master's degree in education in 1950, and coached at several Kansas high schools before coming to KU as an assistant coach in 1965. His coaching career at the University of Kansas includes four NCAA championships, as well as numerous indoor, outdoor, and cross-country championships. Timmons retired as head coach in 1988, and returned to coaching high school athletics.

In 2002, Timmons self-published The NCAA: Who Protects Student-Athletes? A Proposal for a Student Athletes' Bill of Rights, which lists 10 student-athlete "rights," ranging from the right to participate to the right to work, with special emphasis on establishing a fair system of punishment for school or team infractions.

In 2005, Timmons donated Rim Rock Farm (of North Lawrence), the home course of the KU cross-country team since 1980, to KU Endowment.
