Return to the Table of Contents BIOGRAPHY of Flora RichardsonFlora Richardson was born February 17, 1851 to Asa and Phebe Watson Richardson in Monroe, Wisconsin. After attending Monroe High School, she became a teaching assistant there over the winter of 1868-1869. Richardson attended the University of Wisconsin and Lombard University for one year each before moving to Lawrence, Kansas in 1871 with her family. She attended the University of Kansas in the spring semester of 1871, returned to Lombard University for the fall semester, but resumed her coursework at KU in 1872. Richardson received her A.B. from KU in 1873, and her A.M. in 1976. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Flora Richardson married Osgood Andrus Colman (1815-1915), and attended her 50th KU class reunion in 1923. Their daughter, Nellie Colman Bigsby (1878-1962), graduated from the University of Kansas in 1900. Flora Richardson Colman died on November 20th, 1924. Return to the Table of Contents SCOPE and CONTENTSThe Flora Richardson collection of personal papers contains family histories of both the Richardson and Colman families, photographs and photocopies of photographs of members of both families, including Ezekiel Andrus Colman (1814-1989). The collection also includes a photocopy of an article about a Pi Beta Phi gathering held at the Richardson household, as well as several University of Kansas postcards, and a program from a 1925 performance by John Philip Sousa at KU.
