SCOPE and CONTENTS

Allen describes most fully his daily life in southern Wisconsin. His mention of Kansas Territory is limited to the journey there by riverboat, with brief commentary on the political climate. Allen leaves the Territory for Cleveland, Ohio, in Spring of 1858, having resided in Kansas Territory for only one year.

The content of this diary is written in separate sections, which are not written consecutively. Interspersed with diary entries are penmanship exercises, account records, and literary quotations.

Loose material, including 2 envelopes, calling cards, and a printed event invitation are shelved separately at RH MS P631.
